Keep Your Eye On: June Releases 2019

With so many releases coming every month (sometimes too many to count), I've tried to think of a way to let you know what games are launching in the near future. In the end, I decided to create a series called 'Keep Your Eye On...", where I pick a handful of games coming out in the coming month that I'm excited for, but also games I think you will be too. Some of the selected games might be ones you already know about, but others might be a complete surprise to you.

June is always a tricky month to discuss upcoming releases seen as there are bound to be surprise announcements during E3, and Nintendo will probably do what they did with Final Fantasy IX a few months back and say "oh and it's out right after this presentation".

So with that in mind, here are some of my top picks that we know are coming out in June:

Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled

Releases on: Nintendo Switch, PS4 and Xbox One.
Date: 21st June.
-
Developer: Beenox.
Publisher: Activision.

Bring on the nitro, it's time for Crash Team Racing!

From the classic Playstation era, we're being treated to another Crash title. Although not wholly unexpected after Activision published Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy.

When it was originally announced the buzz surrounding this game wasn't as big as I expected until the reveal of new content from Crash Nitro Kart (PS2) certainly made this one more of a head turner.

Octopath Traveler (PC)

Releases on: PC.
Date: 7th June.
-
Developer: Square Enix, Acquire.
Publisher: Square Enix.

Although Octopath Traveler was released on the Nintendo Switch last year, it's now getting a long awaited release for the PC at the start of June.

With its pixel graphics and use of natural light, this game became an instant hit with RPG fans. There's no question that the striking art style will surely translate well onto PC for even more gamers to enjoy.

Hollow Knight (Physical Edition)

Releases on: Nintendo Switch and PS4.
Date: 28th June.
-
Developer: Team Cherry.
Publisher: Team Cherry, Fangamer.

Can I get a hallelujah!

Hollow Knight is FINALLY having a much deserved physical release, arriving on the 28th June.

Having been in the Nintendo Switch charts pretty much since its release back in June 2018 (originally released in 2017 for PC), Team Cherry and Fangamer are bringing fans a physical edition for the Nintendo Switch and PS4.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night

Release dates:
Digital: PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC on 18th June, Nintendo Switch on 25th June.
Retail: PlayStation and Xbox One on 21st June, Nintendo Switch on 28th June.
-
Developers: ArtPlay, Inti Creates, DICO, Monobit, and Wayforward.
Publisher: 505 Games.

I don't think I've seen a more confusing range of release dates, ever. If these dates confuse you or make your eyes boggle, in short, most platforms are getting this highly anticipated game both digitally and physically at the end of the month.

What started as a Kickstarter campaign that took in over $5.5 million (approx: £4.3 million), this metroidvania style game is set to recapture people's love for the genre.

Recent reports/previews have been slightly conflicting in regards to how this game runs and looks on the Switch, however, in my opinion, it's something that is very much about personal preference and it will be interesting to see if there is a day one patch to fix potential bugs/issues.

Super Mario Maker 2

Releases on: Nintendo Switch.
Date: Nintendo Switch 28th June.
-
Developer: Nintendo.
Publisher: Nintendo.

After getting the full low down on the last Nintendo Direct (here) I'm surprisingly excited for this one.

Don't get me wrong, I love the idea of this game (and the original for Wii U and 3DS), but it's not the type of game I could see myself playing. However, after watching the Direct earlier this month I think I'm starting to change my tune.

Super Mario Marker 2 includes so much more customisation compared to the original and is sure to be a fun addition for any Mario fan or gamers who want to try their hands at game design.
